Description of The Sea House

This home offers many one-of-a-kind features that will ensure you experience the natural wonder of Nicaragua both inside and out! Owners did their best to mesh nature with modern comforts. You will be greeted by our two caretakers who live on-site with their furry companion. Eddy will ensure the property is impeccably maintained, and Marina will keep the house spic and span. Our dog, Jack, will make you smile with his friendliness.

Our first floor is open concept and boasts a fully stocked, modern kitchen with full size appliances, every cooking gadget you can imagine and views of the Pacific ocean and brilliant sunsets. We have an herb garden which you are welcome to use for preparing meals. Seating for the entire gang is guaranteed with a formal table for 10 and bar seating for 8. Counters are both polished concrete and reclaimed barn wood which add to the natural charm of the house. From the sofas you can watch a large screen TV or enjoy the colorful indoor garden which sports a unique wall fountain with antique seahorse spout. (I’ll talk more about seahorses later  A half bath which has inside or outside accessibility is adjacent to the living room where we have cable TV, a Magic Jack telephone for calls to the USA and Canada, an Ipod connection and surround sound speakers to listen your music, a DVD player and internet. There is always a nice breeze and super high ceilings which keep the downstairs cool.

The outside patio offers outside dining on top of hand made tiles. There are lounges to sip drinks by the pool or snooze in the hammocks. Palm trees and vegetation surround you and our new flowering shrubs are filling in nicely on the slopes. You and a partner can a shower side by side al fresco in the sunken shower area. There are also multiple hose locations to rinse off surfboards which can safely be stored on surf racks in the garage.

Our second floor offers three bedrooms with air conditioners, hot water on demand in private baths and balconies. In addition to the beds, we have recently acquired a Pack and Play crib for infants or toddlers.

The first bedroom is deemed the ‘bunk room’ because there are 3 sets which sleep 6. Views from the beds are that of green hills. This room has it’s own double sink bathroom with shower and a private balcony with ocean and hillside views. The two additional bedrooms have queen size beds and full wardrobes and desks, in addition to private bathrooms. They both open out to the second story patio with hand made tiles, comfortable seating, ceiling fans, outdoor speakers, and a concrete wet bar for additional entertaining. Decorative ironwork is seen throughout the house. To arrive at the bedrooms on the second floor, you pass a sweet sitting area midway that can serve as a quiet reading space on a sofa that folds down into a bed. A compass rose created out of local natural woods is located on this landing.

The Sea House is minutes by car from smaller surf in the bay which is perfect for paddle boarding, or numerous surf breaks of varying difficulty can be reached by catching an inexpensive shuttle from town. Paddle boards can be rented at the Century 21/Nica Life Realty directly across the street from the bay at a cost of $15 an hour; all of which is donated to children’s charity. Surf boards can be rented in town or at several surf spots.

We especially love the location and our friends and family have unanimously commented about how quiet it is, which is a bonus because you are so close to the town of San Juan del Sur which offers many options for dining and drinking and dancing. Or, if you choose, there is a wood/charcoal burning or propane grilling station along with a sink for convenience along with an herb garden and fruit trees at your disposal. Nothing beats a home dinner of fresh fish which can be purchased at the fishing docks at the bay.

Whether on the patio of our house or in town, you should make a point to view the sunset which somehow cannot be properly captured in photos. Intense colors ignite the sky as the sun slips below the horizon. Then a multitude of stars will provide more glory as there is very little ambient light at our house. They seem to actually twinkle and sometimes will fall…then make a wish! You won’t have to move from the patio to see all of this every evening.

The Sea House is approximately a 5 minute drive to town or about 15 minutes on foot. Please note that fancy clothing or shoes are not necessary in Nicaragua, especially if you want to walk to town. If you rent a vehicle, we recommend a 4 x 4. Or you may utilize a very reliable transportation company, Gaby Transporte, for rides back and forth to town or for all day excursions.
